Prof Rasheed Commissions BUK’s Centre for Dryland Agriculture Building, Tissue Culture Lab

The Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission (NUC), Professor Abubakar A.  Rasheed, on Friday, 17 March, 2017, commissioned the Tissue Culture Laboratory and new building of the Centre for Dryland Agriculture (CDA) at Bayero University, Kano (BUK).

While commissioning the Laboratory, the Executive Secretary stated that it was the mandate of the NUC, being the coordinating body for the World Bank-assisted Africa Centres of Excellence (ACE) project, to tour all the Centres in the country and monitor their progress. He said he was at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, the day before, to visit its Africa Centre of Excellence on Neglected Tropical Diseases and Forensic Biotechnology (ACENTDFB).

Professor Rasheed commended CDA for installing state-of-the-art facilities that would advance the conduct of research in multi-disciplinary areas. He expressed hope that many Nigerian universities would learn from the tremendous progress made by Bayero University.

The Centre Leader and Director  of CDA, Professor Jibrin M. Jibrin, and the Deputy Director, Research and Outreach, Dr. Kabir Mustapha, took the Executive Secretary round  facilities at the Laboratory, with Dr. Mustapha explaining the functions and importance of the ultra-modern equipment and facilities.

With the commissioning of the building done, Professor Rasheed took a tour of facilities in the Centre, including the GIS Laboratory, Reading Room,  office of the Director and other Research Laboratories.
